OOPS! Editing errors in The Perfect Year

Unfortunately the editing was not perfect! (tough job)

Question: Many fiction authors use a pen name.  Why did you choose not to?

Answer:  When I started to write this novel, I considered using a pen name.

I thought it might be nice for privacy reasons.  I also realized that using my real name might cause me some spiritual problems.  As a human we all struggle with pride and I was a little afraid to deal with that, then I thought, maybe God wants to teach me humility through the use of my real name.

I thought about it, prayed about it and decided that God did not give this story to a pen name, He gave it to me, so I choose to use my real name and learn from it. I rarely use my full name so I used it.

Another interesting thing was that I had a favorite name that I considered using as a pen name.  It was William Christopher.  Instead of using that name as a pen name I turned it around and made it the main character's name in my novel, Christopher Williamson.

Do any character in the book reflect you as a person?

Answer: Actually none. Chris, the main character actually convicts me of my own lack of Christian outreach.

Are any of the events in the story taken from your life?

Answer:

    • I lost my mother to cervical cancer in 1983 and my dad to cancer in 1990.
    • As Chris did, I also had a good friend in high school that was Jewish.
    •  I fell in love with my wife at first sight and she is a brown-eyed beauty (High Scool sweethearts - Married 46yrs).
    • Like Chris I was raised to strictly follow the Ten Commandment. When I had to make a decision about Jesus, like a Jew, I had to struggle with the same question of God's unity.
    • I am from a small city in Illinois

The story involves love between two people of different faith.  Do you support interfaith marriage?

Answer:

I have had several friends in my lifetime that had interfaith marriages and it is very difficult, especially when they have children. Usually the children end up without a solid Christian upbringing and many time no religion in their lives at all.  If I was to advise anyone on the subject, I thing it would be to marry with in your own faith.  With that said people fall in love with people of different faiths and I do believe with hard work and mutual respect it can be worked out, but I think God's word discourages it. Children usually are the victims of a bad interfaith marriage. I think God gave me this story to show that a none believer can find Jesus through their Christian partner.

Why did you leave the Baptist Church?

Answer:

As you grow older and your needs change, you look for a church that will meet your needs and is serving God in ways that you can serve. We joined a church not a denomination. There are Methodist churches I would not belong to and there are Baptist churches I would not join.  The church we belong to now has the right balance between serving the Lord in bringing the lost to Jesus and being His hands in a lost and needy world, as well as loving and caring for the saints. I have found over the years that God leads you to where He wants you to be! I believe that all who profess Jesus as Savior belong to one Church regardless of what you call it.
